stand-up, bir kişinin sahneye çıkıp izleyicilere komik hikayeler anlattığı, espriler yaptığı ve genellikle kendi yaşam deneyimlerinden yola çıkarak güldürmeye çalıştığı bir tür canlı performanstır. Stand-up genellikle mikrofon ve bir sahne ile yapılan bir performans sanatıdır. Stand-up komedyenleri, mizah anlayışlarına, tarzlarına ve kişisel deneyimlerine göre farklılık gösterebilirler, ancak genellikle seyirciyle etkileşime girerler ve spontane tepkilere dayalıdırlar. Stand-up, komiklik, mizah ve sosyal eleştiri gibi unsurları bir araya getirerek izleyicileri eğlendirirken düşündürmeyi de amaçlar.

Ayak üstü yapılan bir mizah türüdür. Zeki insanların yaptığı, kısa süren, Yıldırım hızında çarpan komedilerdir.

Rahmetli Orhan BORAN yıllar önce ülkemizde bir güldürü çığırı açtı. Buna da ''Ayaküstü Gırgırı'' adını verdi. Daha sonraları Cem YILMAZ, Ata DEMiRER gibi kişiler de bu işi yaptılar. Ve yapılan bu işe ''stand-up'' adı verildi. Bu işi ilk yapan kişi Türkçe bir ad koymuş iken neden daha sonra ingilizcesini kullanır olduk?
