ilk defa ispanya'da sangre azul olarak ortaya çıkmış asilzade tanımlamasıdır.

malum ispanyollar esmer millettir. bunların kralları ve asilzade sınıfları genelde vizigotlar'dan itibaren hep cermen kökenli olmuştur. bu beyaz tenli asilzadeler, bir de güneşe çıkmayınca bildiğin kireç gibi kalmışlardır. beyaz tenin altında, damarların mavi renkte gözüktüğü bilinir. işte bu mavi gözüken damarlar yüzünden, kendisi güneşin altında amele yanığı olmuş halk tabakası, asilzadelerin kanlarının mavi renkte olduğunu düşünmüştür ve onlara "mavi kanlı" anlamına gelen sangre azul ismini takmıştır.

sonradan avrupa'daki tüm asilzadeler için, kullanılmıştır. neredeyse tüm avrupa dillerinde mevcut olan bir söz öbeğidir.
