japon sinemasının en az bilinen ve en az anlaşılmış yönetmenlerindendir. 20 kasım 1915'te japonya'da dünyaya gelen yönetmen, çektiği film sayısıyla, ülkesinde az rastlanan bir rekora soyunmuş gibidir. sinemacılığı her ne kadar diğer japon sinemacılarından farklı da olsa, eklektizm merakı yüzünden ''sadece illüstrasyoncu'' diye yaftalanmıştır.
